The Optimist Oratorical Contest gives youngsters the chance to speak to the world. More than $150,000 in college scholarships funded by the Optimist International Foundations is awarded annually from this program.
First conducted in 1928, this is the second most popular Optimist International Program. Nearly 2,000 clubs participate in this program each year. The winners at the Club level receive medallions and Zone winners receive a plaque. Districts have the opportunity to provide two $2,500 scholarships or a first place scholarship of $2,500, a second place scholarship of $1,500, and a third place scholarship of $1,000.

The Essay Contest is sponsored by Optimist International to give young people the opportunity to write about their own opinions regarding the world in which they live. The approach can encompass a young person’s personal experience, the experience of their country or a more historical perspective. In additional to developing skills for written expression, participants also have the opportunity to win a college scholarship!
The guidelines require that contestants be under the age of 18 as of October 1, 2017 and attending school in the United States, Canada, or the Caribbean. Club winners advance to the District contest to compete for a $2,500 college scholarship. The District-level scholarships are funded by the Optimist International Foundation.

Thanks to you we were able to donate more than four grocery carts full of non perishable food to the Salvation Army of Chilliwack, a Station Wagon full of unwrapped toys to the Chilliwack Community Services, and over $8000 was raised to help our Chilliwack Youth become Awesome Citizens of tomorrow! Once again, the Optimist Club of Chilliwack is pleased to sponsor the ‘Just Say No’ drama presentation at the Chilliwack Secondary School Theatre. This production is open to ALL grade four students whether or not the school has a Just Say No Club in effect. District 33 will donate the cost of the busing for all public schools attending.
We are very pleased with the Chilliwack Secondary Drama Department’s production over the last 22 years under the guidance of Mr. Brent Moore. Mr. Moore says there are some exciting updates in the show this year. The performance just keeps on improving. The students really enjoy the program with its blend of humour and drama. This year, with three dates to choose from, we are again hoping that every school will be able to attend including many of the private schools.
The new Chilliwack Secondary School Theatre holds up to 230 (including wheelchair spaces) per session. The production dates and times for the six performances are as follows:

The 4th Annual Optimist Circles of Friends fundraiser for kids in need in our community takes place on December 2nd. Tickets are $25 each and include a fabulous night of dancing to the oldies with Rockwell (Fred Webber, Frank Kozel & Mark Tarras). Bring along a new, unwrapped toy and/or food bank item. Also, half tables will be reserved in your name for 8 friends in your circle or reserve full tables for 16.
