Optimist Song Writing Competition
original tunes? The Optimist Club of Chilliwack is hosting a song writing competition
for students aged 18 or younger who are in grades 7 - 12. First prize is $1000! Second
prize is $500 and third prize is $250. There will be seven honourable mention prizes of
$50 each. The first place winner will also receive a professional recording session for
their original tune at Tractor Grease Studio.
In keeping with the Optimist Club philosophy we would encourage contestants to write songs that will uplift and inspire others as that is part of the judging criteria!
General Rules and Guidelines:
Contestants must be 18 or younger and in grades 7 - 12 to participate.
Participants may collaborate to write and perform their song as long as all
participants are in grades 7 - 12 and 18 years old or younger. Team submissions
are acceptable but the prize money will remain the same.
Lyrics and music must be original with a focus on inspiration and optimism.
Songs should be no more than 4 minutes long.
The first 3 individuals or groups to pre-register from each of the participating
secondary and middle schools will compete at an Optimist Club meeting on
Thursday March 15 for the top 10 spots. (3 - 5 judges will determine the winners)
The top 10 contestants from this elimination event will be chosen by a panel of
judges during an event held at the Lions Riding Club Hall on Thursday,
March15th. The top ten entries will move on to the final competition. There will
be a maximum of 10 entries competing in the final.
The final competition will be held at 45892 Wellington Avenue at the Acoustic
Emporium - April 6 from 7 - 9pm. Registration starts at 6.
There is no fee to enter.
Contestants are responsible for their own sound equipment (eg: guitar and
amplifier;) but a microphone will be provided.
All candidates must pre-register by submitting their registration information

The FIRST 3 contestants to register for the event from each school will move on to
the semi-finals to be held at the Lions Riding Club Hall on March 15th.
Registration begins at 6:30. The event starts at 7. Guests are welcome to attend.
There is no charge. The top 10 performers will be announced that night and will
advance to the finals to compete for:
$1000 - 1st prize and a professional recording session at Tractor Grease Studio.
$500 - 2nd prize
$250 - 3rd prize
7 x $50 - runner-up prizes
